Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

He defended four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
